0-14 months

In the Huia room we endeavour to provide a calm, nurturing environment for children from birth to approximately 14 months, where we will focus on every child's individual needs.

We feel so honoured to be a part of your child’s early life and love watching them achieve new milestones and goals. Every child is different and develops at different stages and in the Huia room we let our children develop naturally with little intervention from us. We trust your child and know they will move onto each step of their development when they are ready

As a teaching team we recognise the importance of positive social, emotional and physical development and endeavour to create an environment that promotes healthy development through loving relationships.  We know it can be scary leaving your child for the first time and we try as hard as we can to support you and your child on this journey. We have an online resource for parents called StoryPark where you can access photos and videos of your child and we try to post new photos on here as often as we can so you can see your little one even while you are away from them.

The Huia room environment is open plan and the children can move freely between inside and outside, with plenty of open ended resources and activities for them to engage in. We also provide a ‘safe space’ for our non crawling infants where they can spend time learning about their bodies, and how they work

We consider infant nutrition to be very important and appreciate it will impact their lifelong eating habits and physical development. We have a Healthy Heart approved menu especially designed for the Huia room, and will work with you as you introduce new foods and meet their dietary needs.

Children will stay in the Huia room with us until they are approximately 14 months old. At this point in consultation with you we will look at transitioning them to the next room, Te Henga depending on whether we feel your child is physically and emotionally ready for this move. We have a comprehensive transition programme into this room and will advise you every step of the way. We want your child to feel comfortable with this move, as well as yourselves
